The melting capacitor problem in our Dell Optiplex machines has been traced to our projector. The projector seemed to heat up video card, thus frying the motherboards. The solution was buying a USB2 to VGA card, which is working splendidly and allows us to double up single monitor configured machines. I've had two computers go out with messages stating a "thermal event" had occurred. After opening the boxes, I found that the fans were still working but an orangish-brown substance had appeared on top of the capacitors on the motherboard. I think that means the mobos are fried. Ouch.
